Discover Yulli's Byron Bay

Tucked just a short stroll from Main Beach, Yulli's Byron Bay at 2/1 Carlyle St, Byron Bay NSW 2481, Australia, feels like the kind of place you discover once and then keep coming back to. I first visited on a busy Saturday evening after a long coastal walk, drawn in by the warm lighting and the low hum of happy diners. What struck me immediately wasn’t just the laid-back Byron vibe, but the thoughtful energy behind the food and service.

The menu leans plant-based, yet it never feels restrictive. Instead, it’s creative, layered, and surprisingly indulgent. Dishes like mushroom bao buns, crispy eggplant, and zucchini flowers arrive beautifully plated, balancing texture and flavor in a way that shows real kitchen skill. During one visit, I watched the pass as plates were assembled with careful attention-fresh herbs scattered at the last moment, sauces brushed with precision. That kind of consistency doesn’t happen by accident; it comes from a well-trained team and a clear culinary philosophy.

Plant-based dining has grown rapidly in Australia over the last decade. According to research from Roy Morgan, millions of Australians now identify as vegetarian or mostly vegetarian, and demand for vegan options continues to rise. Restaurants that thrive in this space usually understand that flavor comes first. Yulli’s clearly does. Instead of relying on imitation products, many dishes highlight whole ingredients-fermented elements for umami, seasonal produce for freshness, and bold spice blends for depth. The result is food that appeals to vegans and omnivores alike.

I once brought a friend who’s usually skeptical of meat-free menus. He ordered the Korean-inspired cauliflower and ended up admitting it was one of the most satisfying plates he’d had in Byron Bay. That’s the real test. When a restaurant can shift perceptions, even slightly, it’s doing something right.

The drinks list deserves attention too. The venue has a strong focus on craft beer and natural wines. Staff are quick to explain the brewing process behind certain local selections or the minimal-intervention philosophy behind some of the wines. That transparency builds trust. In an era when diners care about sourcing and sustainability, clear communication matters. Organizations like the Good Food Guide often highlight not just flavor, but ethics and sustainability in their reviews, and this place aligns with those values through its ingredient sourcing and waste-conscious practices.

Service is relaxed but informed. On one occasion, I asked about gluten-free options for a family member. The server didn’t hesitate; she walked through the menu, explained cross-contamination precautions, and even double-checked with the kitchen. That level of care reflects solid operational systems, not guesswork. It’s reassuring, especially for diners with dietary requirements.

Location plays its part too. Being close to Byron Bay’s central attractions makes it convenient for both locals and tourists. After sunset, the street takes on that easy coastal charm-people drifting between bars, live music echoing faintly from nearby venues. Inside, the atmosphere stays intimate. Timber finishes, soft lighting, and communal tables create a social but comfortable setting. It’s equally suited to a casual date night or a group dinner after a day at the beach.

Online reviews consistently mention portion sizes and bold flavors. While individual tastes always vary, the overall sentiment is overwhelmingly positive. Of course, peak times can mean a wait, and like many popular spots in Byron Bay, booking ahead is wise. That said, the team handles busy services with impressive efficiency.

What stands out most is the clear commitment to quality. From ingredient selection to plating technique, from beverage curation to guest interaction, the restaurant demonstrates both confidence and clarity in what it offers. It doesn’t chase trends for the sake of it. Instead, it refines a distinct identity-modern, plant-focused dining delivered with warmth and skill.

If you’re exploring Byron Bay’s food scene and want something that feels both thoughtful and genuinely enjoyable, this spot delivers on every front.

  • This is a lovely vegan restaurant hidden away in delightful Byron Bay. The banquet came in 5 courses of wee fancies that were tasty and quirky. The non alcoholic warm cider is die for.. . Great to have a fab vegan restaurant. Ppl need to use them, experience them and patronise regularly. Cheers team..

  • I have been waiting an age to go here. It was so worth the wait, the food was amazing. Every dish absolutely delicious. The food ten star, the atmosphere was 3 only because the secret has not got out and there were not a lot of people dining. It was lunch on Saturday of the long weekend. What a hidden secret in Byron Bay. Can’t wait to go back to try different dishes.

  • Absolutely delicious food. We had the banquet (one with matching drinks) and it was all very tasty. Great way to try out a lot of the menu. We ordered a couple more things too just because it all sounded amazing (and was). Will definitely come back to try more of the menu when next down that way. Pet friendly which was great, and most importantly, 100% vegan, which is why we chose it.

  • We spent a pleasant evening at Yulli's for dinner on a Saturday night. We had the $48 pp banquet menu which was good value. Great presentation, tasty dishes and excellent service. We had the paired drinks which included a cocktail, two wines and a sake, the standout of the four drinks being the sake. It's great to see that in these times, there is still quality food to be had at a good price.

  • Wow!!! A phenomenal restaurant. This was better than an extremely expensive high end restaurant in Sydney we had. Each dish was thoughtfully flavored - not overpowered but unique. Moneybags - quite good Eggplant - incredible Pad Thai - the best I’ve ever had Linguine - refreshing and a unique twist Massaman curry - one of the best roti breads ever.. I’ll be thinking about it for a long time The cocktails were decent albeit small.

  • Couldn’t recommend enough!! We had the banquet for $45 each and it was a bargain for the amount of food we got. Every dish was delicious, and we had some leftover pad Thai to take home. A special mention has to go to the two desserts at the end. We were so full but nothing could have stopped us from demolishing them. Already planning to go back with family in the future!

  • An absolute gem in Byron Bay. Yulli’s delivers a fully vegan banquet experience that feels more like a global culinary journey than just a meal. Each course showcases techniques and flavours drawn not only from across Asia, but from all around the world – masterfully blended into a cohesive and elevated tasting menu. Coming from Hong Kong, I’ve grown up surrounded by complex and bold Asian flavours – so to find a restaurant in Australia that captures and reimagines those tastes with such skill honestly blew me away. My tastebuds were thrilled. The second course was a true standout: Sesame-crumbed shiitake mushrooms. The layers of flavour and texture were perfectly orchestrated – crunchy, savoury, bright, and deeply satisfying. And that final bite of pickled cucumber? An absolute stroke of brilliance – it tied everything together with a refreshing, zesty lift. (I sincerely hope this dish becomes a permanent fixture on the menu – it deserves to be.) The Korean fried broccolini was another highlight – bold, sticky, and tangy in the best possible way. It’s clear that this is not just about fusion for novelty’s sake, but a genuine, thoughtful celebration of culinary traditions, brought together with creativity and flair. If vegan food tasted like this every day, I’d go plant-based in a heartbeat.

  • the Korean broccoli was fantastic. As a Chinese I've never seen a cooking way of broccoli like this. it's super crispy and the source was also so good. The pad Thai was also amazing. it's more authentic than the Thai restaurant. it's not like the typical pad Thai, more advanced.
